Meet Brian Baker

Your Drumming Coach

Since discovering Poison and Mötley Crüe at 12 years old, I’ve been hooked on drumming. My love for hair bands like these set the stage, but as I grew, so did my musical tastes. From the raw energy of Seattle grunge—bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains—to the technical brilliance of Dream Theater and Tool, drumming has been my passion and creative outlet for over three decades.

Drumming isn’t just about the music; it’s about the journey. It’s the thrill of learning, the joy of progress, and the sense of accomplishment when you finally master a tricky beat or nail your favorite song. That’s what I aim to share with my students: a love for the process and the tools to achieve their drumming goals. Whether you’re dreaming of impressing your friends, joining a band, or just jamming along to your favorite tracks, I’m here to help you get there.

My Programs

I’ve developed two tailored drumming programs to fit any beginner’s needs:

Drums for Beginners Online Coaching:
A pre-recorded video lesson program designed to help you learn at your own pace with expert guidance.

Live Zoom Drum Lessons:
One-on-one weekly coaching sessions where we’ll work together in real time to fast-track your progress. Thanks to my electronic drum kit, you’ll get crystal-clear sound during every lesson.

No matter which path you choose, I require my students to have their own drum set—acoustic or electronic—or a practice pad kit to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.

My Story

Born in 1976 in Oklahoma City, I started drumming at 12 and never looked back. During high school in Manteca, CA, I played in marching band, jazz band, winter percussion, and pep band. My passion for music led me to study under Joe Ragan at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, and later, the Commercial Music Program at Labette Community College, where I also taught as an adjunct drum instructor.

Since 2000, I’ve taught private drum lessons across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. Along the way, I’ve played with numerous bands and artists, contributing drums, co-production, and songwriting to projects like Dad’s Rehab’s self-titled album in 2012.

Why Learn with Me?

My mission is to help you fall in love with drumming, just like I did. My unique teaching approach focuses on enjoying the process while building self-mastery, so you can achieve your goals in less time. Let’s explore the joy of drumming together!
